Tatiana Iliina
Greenfield Park, Canada

Russian-born Tatiana Iliina lives in Montreal and has sold paintings to collectors all over the world. She works with both abstract and representational compositions, with many pieces falling somewhere in between. Some of Tatiana’s paintings could be interpreted as a landscape or a cityscape, or a non-representational articulation of color, giving the viewer the opportunity to make independent decisions about the work. Her long brushstrokes and painterly style are created using a palette knife, resulting in richly textured canvases. Working in a range of colors from muted grays to bold blues, vibrant purples, and glowing oranges, Tatiana’s portfolio reflects an array of moods while maintaining a focus on her iconic style.

Tatiana, Your painting is wonderful! I took it to the framers and she also kept commenting how wonderful your painting was.

I love the energy in this painting - it does seem like a playground. The opposite colors and the skillful use of color on the tree trunks and the textural brush (or knife) strokes look like fun, play. This painting makes me smile.

Comments About This Piece

That first time you emerge from deep space and burst out into the synthetic glow of a 4th order civilization. I remember it was almost surprising how similar it was to an Earth cityscape... and as I found out, how any similarity was purely coincidental!

This piece is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.

Acrylic painting

Acrylic paint was made commercially available in the 1950’s. Acrylic is a fast drying paint that can be diluted with water, but becomes water-resistant when dry. Acrylics can be applied in thin layers and washes to resemble watercolor paints, or they can be applied in thick layers, built up for texture. The main difference between oil and acrylic paint is the drying time. Oil dries slowly, allowing more time to blend colors and apply glazes. Artists who use acrylic paints typically work faster than those who use oils. Additionally, acrylics offer more versatility and are often used for mixed media work. Artists can mix different materials into the paint, such as sand or rice. They can also apply other media on top of the dried acrylic, such as pastel or pen.

Stretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas artwork is labeled stretched, it means the canvas has been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Stretched canvases typically do not require framing.

One-of-a-kind

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
