Lilac Abramsky-Arazi
Hod Ha'Sharon, Israel

Art and painting have always been present in Lilac Abramsky-Arazi’s life, however it has only been in the last few years that she has committed herself fully to her artwork. Lilac pursued an academic career in neuroscience and worked as a psychologist for many years. Her academic and professional background has contributed to the maturity and depth in her paintings. Her abstract works seek to be emotionally evocative in their strong sense of movement, vibrant color, and patterns. They often respond to moments in her own life, changes, disappointments, and hope.

Comments About This Piece

It started simply, a few butterflies on a canvas. But then the madness began. Another one showed up and another and another. I wanted light blue butterflies for the new life I was creating, like it used to be, gentle and simple. And from that place more and more came and I could not stop and they all wanted out. More butterflies emerged, managing to break through. Butterflies of daylight, and night butterflies; moving butterflies and still ones. The painting tries to redefine beauty in a closed space and break through new horizons.

Shown at ArtDrenaline, Heichal Shlomo Museum, Jerusalem, 2015

PLEASE NOTE: Due to its size, this painting will ship from the artist's studio in Israel un-stretched and rolled in a tube.

Acrylic painting

Acrylic paint was made commercially available in the 1950’s. Acrylic is a fast drying paint that can be diluted with water, but becomes water-resistant when dry. Acrylics can be applied in thin layers and washes to resemble watercolor paints, or they can be applied in thick layers, built up for texture. The main difference between oil and acrylic paint is the drying time. Oil dries slowly, allowing more time to blend colors and apply glazes. Artists who use acrylic paints typically work faster than those who use oils. Additionally, acrylics offer more versatility and are often used for mixed media work. Artists can mix different materials into the paint, such as sand or rice. They can also apply other media on top of the dried acrylic, such as pastel or pen.

Unstretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas is labeled unstretched, it means the canvas has NOT been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Unstretched canvases typically require stretching or framing.
