Robert Mullenix started painting trees when he lived in Central Illinois, far away from the woods. Much to his father's chagrin, Robert regrets that he doesn't know much about trees. He says he thinks mostly in the abstracts that read as landscapes - verticals, diagonals, organic shapes, dots, and marks. Robert creates these detailed paintings from photocopies of published images, exploring the irony of painting nature from a lifeless copy that's far removed from the original scene.
Robert now lives in Red Oak, Iowa with his significant other Liz, three children and Leopard gecko Rita. He grew up in Oxford, Ohio. He holds an undergraduate degree in drawing from the Universtiy of Sioux Falls and an MFA in painting from the University of Illinois. He has shown his work in group and solo shows across the midwest and southern United States.
The original "Look Not to Gold" is a 30" x 22" acrylic painting on paper.
