Robert Mullenix started painting trees when he lived in Central Illinois, far away from the woods. Much to his father's chagrin, Robert regrets that he doesn't know much about trees. He says he thinks mostly in the abstracts that read as landscapes - verticals, diagonals, organic shapes, dots, and marks. Robert creates these detailed paintings from photocopies of published images, exploring the irony of painting nature from a lifeless copy that's far removed from the original scene.
