Kristi Taylor
Bristol, Tennessee

Kristi Taylor grew up in Bristol, Tennessee, a small city nestled in the Appalachian Mountains where Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia intersect and form several national parks. She currently resides in nearby Kingsport, on a beautiful mountain lake, which provides an abundant source of natural inspiration. Kristi’s Tree View series began in the autumn of 2007, just after the leaves had fallen from the trees. Inspiration struck as her gaze caught the configurations of light against the backdrop of empty sky. A fixture in the community, Kristi’s paintings can be seen at the Knoxville Airport and Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

Comments About This Piece

This is the second piece from my series “City Life”, featuring beautiful abstract landscape elements set against urban forms. It is a wonderful thing how nature harmonizes, bringing life to any environment. My favorite color combinations are presented in this piece...the blues, grays, and whites set against a palette of citrus. The deep contrast of the tree limbs gives the composition great energy. This piece is on composite board with cradled wood edges. It comes ready to hang.

Acrylic painting

Acrylic paint was made commercially available in the 1950’s. Acrylic is a fast drying paint that can be diluted with water, but becomes water-resistant when dry. Acrylics can be applied in thin layers and washes to resemble watercolor paints, or they can be applied in thick layers, built up for texture. The main difference between oil and acrylic paint is the drying time. Oil dries slowly, allowing more time to blend colors and apply glazes. Artists who use acrylic paints typically work faster than those who use oils. Additionally, acrylics offer more versatility and are often used for mixed media work. Artists can mix different materials into the paint, such as sand or rice. They can also apply other media on top of the dried acrylic, such as pastel or pen.

Composite board

Composite board is a thin, flat panel of compressed wood. If not already framed, most composite board work will require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
